What's the best gift you can give? Happiness. The beaming smile on this adorable little girl encapsulates what the holidays are all about. She had just received a gift through Peg's Presents, a charitable organization that brings gifts -- and smiles -- to kids in need. Our friend Lee Romano Sequeira founded Peg's Presents in honor of her mom, who cared for over a dozen foster kids over the years. Each year Lee and her husband (and Peg's Presents co-founder) Andrew bring about 80 presents to the children at Dignity Housing, which helps low-income families and individuals in Philadelphia break the cycle of homelessness and poverty by providing safe, affordable housing, promoting self-sufficiency, and creating opportunities.
"Many of the mothers at Dignity Housing are not able to give their children birthday and Christmas presents, and that’s where we come in," says Lee. "Peg’s Presents provides gifts to children in need to let kids enjoy being kids and bring some smiles to all — givers & receivers — along the way."
Interested in helping out? You can donate in two ways. To make a monetary donation (and have Lee and Andrew shop for the gifts) visit www.gofundme.com/pegspresents Or shop for a new toy yourself for ages 1 month to 17 years and send to Sparkle Plenty (c/o Peg’s Presents) 525 S. Fourth Street, Suite #242, Philadelphia, PA 19147. (No stuffed animals at the moment please, they have a current stockpile).
