When it comes to decorating, I can play with colors and styles all day.
When it comes to makeup, I have no interest in playing around at all. I just want simple, fast, pretty solutions that I can apply and forget about. Which, admittedly, puts me in a rut sometimes. Over the holidays I decided my standard barely-there eye makeup needed some updating and came across the perfect solution: customized Eye Palettes designed for specific eye colors and accompanied by instructions on how to create different looks. Several companies now make these, such as Too Faced and Smashbox (which even has a QR code that links to a video). I chose Sephora Collection Pro Lesson Palette: Blue Eyes for the reasonable price and the little photos directly beside the shadows. The box could be smaller and the shadows a little less powdery, but the results are pretty terrific. The neutral palette fit right in my comfort zone. The smoky palette alarmed me at first--it's really dark--but once completed did what it promised: made my eyes pop blue. Plus with the guesswork gone it's kind of fun to apply ... like paint-by-number for grown up girls.
